Two Months of Writing Prompts: Day Eleven

So, as of the day that this was really typed up, I’ve been playing this game for over a month. It’s been fun and I’ve had a blast running around with my friends and family. On the date that I wrote the prompt in my notebook, it was just going through it’s open beta. Anyone who’s interested can check it out Final Fantasy: A Realm Reborn. Anyway, time for the prompt! Write about something that happened over the weekend as though it’s the top story on your local paper.
Is Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn the Final Fantasy?
Local gamer couple, Jarred and Cecilia Brown logged in this Saturday afternoon and participated in an open beta of the new Final Fantasy which is the second online version of the same title.
The first was a successful run of the subscriptions genre of online games, having put out five expansions before dwindling in popularity to World of Warcraft. However, now the game makers are at it again!
“I can’t wait to get high enough level to get my very own Chocobo!” says Cecilia, who recently celebrated her thirty-first birthday on Friday, “What’s not to love about being able to ride a giant yellow chicken?” Jarred just shakes his head at his wife’s antics and chooses not to comment.
Final Fantasy did have issues that have yet to be addressed, like the over populated servers where even the que is too full to allow some players to log in, leading to much frustration. Also, it’s good to point out that there are legacy servers where members that had the first incarnation of XIV, were able to keep their characters that’d already reached max level. Certainly that won’t stop slews of gamers from grinding their way to the top in a matter of weeks.
Cecilia, cautions though, that those that breeze through the content too fast will miss out on the story and the fun of repeating instances with friends. However, it can be noted that if you move too slowly in the game, you will eventually get passed by well meaning friends and family.
All in all, the game, once one is able to get in, looks enjoyable for an MMO The graphics are beautiful, and just what you’d expect from a company known to put a lot of effort into their CGI. The lack of room seems to be the only major drawback, but rumor has it that the situation is being remedied soon and will be resolved some time after the game goes public.
