Once More With Feeling Writing Prompts: Day 14

I’m looking forward to welcoming my teenage son and my husband home from there trip tonight.  I have been equal parts missing them and entertaining a little freedom of sorts.  I still had our youngest with me, but not having to split my focus between three separate individuals has been somewhat relaxing.  Sunday, Lisa and I made charcoal face mask peels and recorded ourselves peeling them off.  It wasn’t necessarily a wild party, but for me it was great fun especially when you add jungle juice made with tequila and any frozen fruit I could find to the mix.

I may or may not elaborate on the face mask night.  For now, I best get down to my writing prompt.  Thinking of making it a Wednesday post after the initial 30 is finished.  I’d ask what you all think, but the interaction on the blog just doesn’t seem to happen.  Chime in with your opinion if you’d like.  I’m leaning towards starting a “Writing Prompt Wednesday” as well as a “Throw it in the Lake Thursday Book Review”.    I still have some time before I’ll be freed up enough to make that decision, since these writing prompts are taking up most of my posting time.

But enough about my life and such, how bout that writing prompt.  Today, we have a deceptively simple one.  Feel free to follow along.  The list can be found here but the day’s prompt is this: Write about a keepsake.

Do you have a keepsake in mind? I do.  Let’s get started, shall we? Read more of this post

Once More With Feeling Writing Prompts: Day 13

Well, I procrastinated all day without doing my writing earlier, and here I am with less than thirty minutes on the clock to get it done for the day.  I’m just a special kind of lazy, hu?  This is why I was so insistent on keeping up with them every day even when certain people threatened extreme displeasure at my doing it.  Getting back into the habit after falling off the wagon is damned hard!  All that doesn’t matter though.  What matters is, I need to get this writing prompt out of the way and then I need to go to bed.

Cue montage music! Inspiring on! Writing prompt at the ready! Everyone wanting to follow along can find the list here and for those too lazy to do the math you can just follow this: List 10 words that you like.  Elaborate on why you like them, and maybe even give a definition of them.

Are we all good? Got your writing utensil of choice ready to create? Then, let’s get started, shall we? Read more of this post

Once More With Feeling Writing Prompts: Day 12

My husband and I left for our postponed (by 11 years) honeymoon when I posted my last writing prompt.  I had intended on posting them with my phone while I was out of state, but it just didn’t end up happening that way.  Then this last week was spent getting my husband and oldest son ready for a trip to D.C. So I ended up not getting any of it done and only just barely got a post out on WMHB.  That said, this prompt is quite late, and I failed to do a prompt a day like I kept telling myself I was going to.  No chrome pigment powders for me!  That said, I’m penalizing myself.  After I finish all 30 prompts, I’m doing 11 extra so that I will have an unbroken 30 days of writing.  I’m doing this for me and not for sparkly glitters.

Just as a side note before I write on this prompt, I broke down and bought an adult coloring book.  I was at Target with my husband and two kinds, and the check-out register had coupons for Papermate products that featured two colorable sides.  Next day, I went to Dollar Tree and found two small adult coloring books that caught my eye, so I’m going to use it for therapy because I think I’ve been letting things get me too wound up and I do find coloring to be calming.  I was about to buy some coloring pencils for them as well when I remembered the art kit someone bought me one Christmas that I still have.  The only downside to them is that I’m still finding is that the sticks of color are easily broken when I sharpen the pencils, so I end up with a lot of wasted pencil.  Oh well, better than never using them at all right?  That would be a lot of wasted pencil!

Enough about my coloring escapades! You want writing and if I go to Facebook one more time, I’ll never get this post done!

Our writing prompt for today could be somewhat of a lengthy one, but I’ll try not to drag it out too long. As always feel free to follow along.  The writing prompt is: Who have you forgotten about until right now? Think hard and list five people from your past that you really should have written something about by now but haven’t. Circle the name of the person who stands out the strongest. Write a description or brief memoir of that person.

I’m not entirely sure how I’m going to start this, but I’ll give it my absolute best. Also the person I’m going to write about will be highlighted in red.  Let’s get started shall we? Read more of this post

Once More With Feeling Writing Prompts: Day 11

I just watched charcoal face mask gone wrong and it is the funniest sh-stuff ever!

Okay, so I was sitting at my best friend Lisa’s house, who has admitted to me that she does not read my blog. Lucky her I started dictating this with that talk to text so she gets to hear some of it first-hand! Isn’t that just spiffy?

I just realized among all of the excitement of the day which was including but not limited to the breakage of someone’s phone (I will not name names) I have realized that I have not posted yet. And of course my day was getting away with me!  Technically I haven’t slept yet, so I’ll consider this posting when it’s supposed to. Just be advised that I’m on my phone so my formatting is going to be crap.  Also since I’m in a car and the power is off, it’s going to be super quick! Also, since the next few days are going to be devoted to celebrating my anniversary with my husband, I am going to postpone prompts for the next week.  I’m debating on whether to add to the end of the list of prompts as a sort of penalty.  What do you think?

Any way I look at it, I’m penalizing myself and taking this lapse seriously.  So let’s get started,  shall we?

Today’s prompt is: Finish this sentence: “I’d love to _____ but my _____ just _____!” (And then write a story that follows it.) Read more of this post

Once More With Feeling Writing Prompts: Day 10

So, how bout that major sports team? Heard they’re not doing so major this year.

Seriously though, sometimes I don’t even know how to take my own writing.  1NS is like a fevered dream.  Quick and dangerously hot, but now that I’m nearly done with it I’m feeling a little disappointed.  It’s just so short, and I want there to be more of it!  I did finish writing up what I had on paper and transferring it onto the computer last night, so I’m one more step towards that final goal.  There’s one part in it that needs a little more writing to connect the pieces together, and then I just need to finish out the ending.  Page count on my Open Office program as it stands has it at thirteen pages with size twelve Times New Roman font.  So, maybe I’ll end up with twenty to twenty-tree pages?  Since I’m going to try to market it, I might not post the ending here.  I’m still debating on that.  I mean on one hand I’m not sure if I’d have enough pages to market it at all, and in that case I’ll have to bust my hump to finish off Vertigo since it’s the next closest to completion and then maybe another short story that I’ll write and try to sell them all together as a small short story collection?  I guess we’ll see.  If I do have enough content to put 1NS out there alone, then I won’t have to worry about all that.  Besides, I’ll want to let it sit a little, then go back at it with my Little Editor Beth who I kept back with a choke-collar to keep her from stopping my forward momentum.

Well, now that I’ve got that out of my system lets get on to a writing prompt, shall we?  So, what do we have for us today? Day 10 is: What was your favorite childhood toy? *blinks* nope! that’s not awkward at all!  Ah well! Let’s get started, shall we? Read more of this post

Once More With Feeling Writing Prompts: Day 9

I’ve got to keep on top of these posts better! Too many have gotten close to midnight for me *cough* and I want to really treat myself to something special when I finish this.  More importantly though, I want to keep myself in the habit of writing every day.  I want to keep my mental muscles flexing so that the chance of getting stuck for long periods of time becomes smaller.

For anyone just coming to this blog.  I am taking my prompts from a list I made from previous prompt lists and from around the net.  You can find it here if you want to try them out yourself.  I would challenge you to try doing one a day for a month straight.  Let me tell you, it’s a challenge for someone who hasn’t made it a habit yet.

Today’s prompt is Write as if you are observing a celebration involving an original female character of your making.  So, we’re back to writing scenes.  I have a good one in mind, so I’ll just get right to it!  Let’s get started, shall we? Read more of this post

Once More With Feeling Writing Prompts: Day 8

Yes, this is coming late. I’ve been running around all day with my family and haven’t had time to post.  I’m here now though!  See!  See!  I’m posting!  Okay, so what do we have here for our post on this fine Easter Sunday??? Well crap…

Can you think of a time when something that was poorly written caused confusion or trouble for you? Write about the experience. If you can’t think of anything, make something up!

Um…I have and hour and a half to write on this one? I may be in trouble!  Not that I don’t know how to write, nor that I really have to dive deep into my imagination to dredge up a moment when this could have applied to me, since anyone that’s been paying any attention would know what book/s this dredges up for me to rant.  The problem is, can I stop my rant in time to post it?

Let’s see if I can do it, shall we? Read more of this post

Once More With Feeling Writing Prompts: Day 7

Okay, so I was gearing up to do this writing prompt and realized that the most important part, the part that inspired me to make a note on the end of it that said “try not to go into the gutter on this one”, was missing.  I’ve fixed it in the original post but just so you know, the part that accidentally got left out said that the prompt also needs to involve touching something for the first time.  This, of course is me putting it in my own words.  When I first got the prompt from a generator it said POV – third person (omniscient) * male character – under 18 * the first touch.  When I created my new list, I decided to put the prompt into a somewhat proper sentence.  Anyway, I’ll just get right into the prompt for today.

Write in the third person (omniscient) point of view about a male character who is under the age of 18. Have the story involve touching something for the first time. *try not to go into the gutter with this one!*

I’m going to try to keep this under a thousand words, but it’s not necessary for anyone else to do.  Let’s get started, shall we? Read more of this post

Once More With Feeling Writing Prompts: Day 6

I’ll start this post by wishing my older sister a happy birthday.  We may not talk, but she’s still my sister.  Funny how one decides to not talk to me, and the other comes back into my life.  Also, interestingly enough, today’s prompt is more of a thoughtful post as well, and will be more journal like. Instead of dwelling on the bullheadedness of the people I’m related to, I’m going to focus on today’s prompt which asks the question: Who do you want to be when you are 40? (Or 50 or 60, etc. if you are already 40) Read more of this post

Once More With Feeling Writing Prompts: Day 5

I just realized that though I wrote this one by hand, I never actually got it onto wordpress.  Well here I go, posting it quick to keep myself from defaulting on my own word.  Once more with feeling prompts day five is: Begin with “Today I will…” and write for ten minutes. Read more of this post
