Once More With Feeling Writing Prompts: Day 12

My husband and I left for our postponed (by 11 years) honeymoon when I posted my last writing prompt.  I had intended on posting them with my phone while I was out of state, but it just didn’t end up happening that way.  Then this last week was spent getting my husband and oldest son ready for a trip to D.C. So I ended up not getting any of it done and only just barely got a post out on WMHB.  That said, this prompt is quite late, and I failed to do a prompt a day like I kept telling myself I was going to.  No chrome pigment powders for me!  That said, I’m penalizing myself.  After I finish all 30 prompts, I’m doing 11 extra so that I will have an unbroken 30 days of writing.  I’m doing this for me and not for sparkly glitters.

Just as a side note before I write on this prompt, I broke down and bought an adult coloring book.  I was at Target with my husband and two kinds, and the check-out register had coupons for Papermate products that featured two colorable sides.  Next day, I went to Dollar Tree and found two small adult coloring books that caught my eye, so I’m going to use it for therapy because I think I’ve been letting things get me too wound up and I do find coloring to be calming.  I was about to buy some coloring pencils for them as well when I remembered the art kit someone bought me one Christmas that I still have.  The only downside to them is that I’m still finding is that the sticks of color are easily broken when I sharpen the pencils, so I end up with a lot of wasted pencil.  Oh well, better than never using them at all right?  That would be a lot of wasted pencil!

Enough about my coloring escapades! You want writing and if I go to Facebook one more time, I’ll never get this post done!

Our writing prompt for today could be somewhat of a lengthy one, but I’ll try not to drag it out too long. As always feel free to follow along.  The writing prompt is: Who have you forgotten about until right now? Think hard and list five people from your past that you really should have written something about by now but haven’t. Circle the name of the person who stands out the strongest. Write a description or brief memoir of that person.

I’m not entirely sure how I’m going to start this, but I’ll give it my absolute best. Also the person I’m going to write about will be highlighted in red.  Let’s get started shall we? Read more of this post

Once More With Feeling Writing Prompts: Day 10

So, how bout that major sports team? Heard they’re not doing so major this year.

Seriously though, sometimes I don’t even know how to take my own writing.  1NS is like a fevered dream.  Quick and dangerously hot, but now that I’m nearly done with it I’m feeling a little disappointed.  It’s just so short, and I want there to be more of it!  I did finish writing up what I had on paper and transferring it onto the computer last night, so I’m one more step towards that final goal.  There’s one part in it that needs a little more writing to connect the pieces together, and then I just need to finish out the ending.  Page count on my Open Office program as it stands has it at thirteen pages with size twelve Times New Roman font.  So, maybe I’ll end up with twenty to twenty-tree pages?  Since I’m going to try to market it, I might not post the ending here.  I’m still debating on that.  I mean on one hand I’m not sure if I’d have enough pages to market it at all, and in that case I’ll have to bust my hump to finish off Vertigo since it’s the next closest to completion and then maybe another short story that I’ll write and try to sell them all together as a small short story collection?  I guess we’ll see.  If I do have enough content to put 1NS out there alone, then I won’t have to worry about all that.  Besides, I’ll want to let it sit a little, then go back at it with my Little Editor Beth who I kept back with a choke-collar to keep her from stopping my forward momentum.

Well, now that I’ve got that out of my system lets get on to a writing prompt, shall we?  So, what do we have for us today? Day 10 is: What was your favorite childhood toy? *blinks* nope! that’s not awkward at all!  Ah well! Let’s get started, shall we? Read more of this post

Once More With Feeling Writing Prompts: Day 9

I’ve got to keep on top of these posts better! Too many have gotten close to midnight for me *cough* and I want to really treat myself to something special when I finish this.  More importantly though, I want to keep myself in the habit of writing every day.  I want to keep my mental muscles flexing so that the chance of getting stuck for long periods of time becomes smaller.

For anyone just coming to this blog.  I am taking my prompts from a list I made from previous prompt lists and from around the net.  You can find it here if you want to try them out yourself.  I would challenge you to try doing one a day for a month straight.  Let me tell you, it’s a challenge for someone who hasn’t made it a habit yet.

Today’s prompt is Write as if you are observing a celebration involving an original female character of your making.  So, we’re back to writing scenes.  I have a good one in mind, so I’ll just get right to it!  Let’s get started, shall we? Read more of this post

Once More With Feeling Writing Prompts: Day 8

Yes, this is coming late. I’ve been running around all day with my family and haven’t had time to post.  I’m here now though!  See!  See!  I’m posting!  Okay, so what do we have here for our post on this fine Easter Sunday??? Well crap…

Can you think of a time when something that was poorly written caused confusion or trouble for you? Write about the experience. If you can’t think of anything, make something up!

Um…I have and hour and a half to write on this one? I may be in trouble!  Not that I don’t know how to write, nor that I really have to dive deep into my imagination to dredge up a moment when this could have applied to me, since anyone that’s been paying any attention would know what book/s this dredges up for me to rant.  The problem is, can I stop my rant in time to post it?

Let’s see if I can do it, shall we? Read more of this post

Once More With Feeling Writing Prompts: Day 5

I just realized that though I wrote this one by hand, I never actually got it onto wordpress.  Well here I go, posting it quick to keep myself from defaulting on my own word.  Once more with feeling prompts day five is: Begin with “Today I will…” and write for ten minutes. Read more of this post

Once More With Feeling Writing Prompts: Day 1

Okay, I intended on doing this yesterday, but I got distracted by the creation of my new wire wrapped ring similar to my once beloved itchy ring.  I can’t say that it has the sharp wire ends that make my finger want to move, and it’s too new to know whether or not it will help in my writing right now.  Because it’s smoother than it’s predecessor, calling it an itchy ring seems wrong.  However, if it proves to be a success, then I’ll try and come up with some sort of fitting name for it like Inpirering or my Ladymuse..now that i think of it, Inspirering is sort of puny! Yep, I think that shall be it’s name.

This first go, I’m actually pulling out almost all the stops at the moment.  I have Pandora playing a Lindsey Stirling channel, because she’s awesome with a violin and anything related to that sounds pretty awesome! I also have the ring on, just to try it out.  There’s a cup of Highlander Grog flavored coffee in my Death Star shaped coffee mug, and I just lit a Stirling Embers scented Wood Wick candle.  Now that I actually think about it, I’ve realized I’m engaging most of my major senses: touch, taste, scent, and sound!  Can’t engage visual beyond watching what I’m thinking turn into words on a screen, but I guess my recent de-cluttering of my desk could be considered that.  Not that it’s perfectly clear or anything, but I’m not worrying about a mountain of paper causing an avalanche in my lap!

Okay, so adventures in amateur jewelry making and attempts at getting myself motivated aside, I was going to work on one of my writing prompts.  Just got to keep on myself this time!  How about, if I can make it through all 30 days of prompts on time then I can treat myself to a special nail polish I wouldn’t have gotten otherwise, a chrome powder to extend my collection beyond silver chrome, or some equally extravagant seeming nail art themed item that I’ve been holding myself back from purchasing because it’s more of a want than a need.  Yes, let’s hold Cici to this and tell her she can’t get the thing unless she does this other thing!

We shall see…Well anyway, as it is day one, we are starting with the first one: Why did you start your writing? Is that still why you write, or has your writing gone in a different direction than you’d planned? No limits on time taken to write this, nor is there a min or max word count, so I’m just going to fly with this one and when I feel I’ve said what I need to I’m going to call it a day and send you all a mental blow-kiss! Divinity Games: Shirt-bound

Not exactly sure what chapter this is yet, but it must be made digital, because I’m not going to loose this scene.  I’ve been sitting with this in my Drafts for forever and decided I needed to air it out.  I’m even going to take the password off of it for a little while *gasp!*.  Warning, it does have some sexual themes in it that are not appropriate for anyone under the age of eighteen (or whatever age is appropriate for those things. Use your good judgment.) If you are offended by those types of things, I would suggest you not read this.  You have been warned. Read more of this post

Traumatic Cookies

It hit me today how traumatic just making cookies has become for me.  Not traumatic as in they remind me of abuse, but that the thought of making them makes me unbearably sad.  They shouldn’t.  I love to make cookies from scratch.  I use a modified version of my mother’s recipe that we worked out years ago over the phone so that I’d get them just the way I like them.  I’ve since been making this recipe so much that I could very nearly make it with my eyes closed.  I love having to guard the bowl from my little ankle biters, then sneaking a little cookie dough when they aren’t looking, knowing that when it was my mom, she had five kids, their friends, and my father to keep away from the cookie dough.  It’s no wonder that my recipe yields more cookies than hers said it would, I don’t more than half a dozen mouths to fight off.  I love pulling them out, letting them cool a little, then scarfing down three while they’re still warm and the chocolate still melted.  I love taking them to family get togethers and sharing them, coming home with nothing (don’t worry, I try to save enough dough at home to make another dozen).  But it’s taking them to share with family that’s caused my problem. Two Months of Writing Prompts: Day Twelve

Next writing prompt!  This really happened, and I didn’t make this one up.  That said, enjoy anyway! The writing prompt is: Was it supposed to be funny?  What memory does the word “Prank” stir up for you? Read more of this post
