My Brain is an Interesting Organ…

So, yesterday I was hit by one of my rare but horrible headaches.  I was at work at the time, so taking a pain-killer was out of the question.  What brought it on was a combination of fatigue, hunger, and dehydration, maybe even a little tension in my neck.  Whatever the cause though, it came on suddenly and fiercely.  No worries though, I toughed it out till lunch time, at which point I went home and made my Loveys an easy meal of corndogs and started drinking water and munching on apple slices while waiting for the food to cook.  Now normally I usually can’t think beyond “Ow, ow, ow!” when a headache comes on, that and usually try to hide myself somewhere dark and quiet, where I can sleep it off.  However, this time the opposite seemed true…

I have been keeping myself in writing mode with a constant playlist of songs in my ears, and while I perform tasks that don’t need much thought, I Imagine what I’ll write next.  Most of the time, I’m working on my novel.  The playlist is tailored to it, but yesterday while the headache was hitting me it wasn’t that story that had me in its grip.  It was an entirely new story, that has the potential to be a tasty little snack of a short story!  I’ve actually been thinking on how I’m going to try to get people interested in my work, and though the blog might work well enough, another way I thought to get some interest was going through an e-publisher, since a lot of book sales are e-titles now.  There are sites out there that let authors post their own work and put up their own prices.  Exposing my work would be up to me, of course.  But, I have a strategy worked out, and the uber-painful brainstorm of yesterday was just what I’d been wanting!  A full-fledged story idea that could be crafted into a forty-five minute read, with characters, backgrounds, and a plot just complicated enough to make it interesting, but not so much so that it couldn’t be made into anything shorter than a several hundred pages.  I did several pages last night, some on my computer, others on a notebook.  I have basic character descriptions for both the main character and the love interest (yes, a romance, so sue me!), even the beginnings of a synopsis (though I do my best outlines in my head, so can’t say I’ve got one of those put together).  Anyway, here’s a little of what I got, just to tease those of you that know the password for my work!

Brianna and Paul used to be part of a group of friends that knew each other through a local Bulletin Board System, or BBS. They interacted with each other moderately, though not as closely as Brianna did with Georgia, or Paul with Alex. Still, Brianna couldn’t help but secretly crush on Paul. One day, she was unable to hide the growing attraction she felt for Paul. They might have gone all the way, but Brianna was a virgin.
After that night, Paul didn’t try to further the relationship, even seeming to ignore Brianna’s presence. A few months later Brianna stopped hanging out with anyone from the group, unable to stand to watch as he fawned over other girls and talked about what he did with them.
Fifteen years later, Brianna a new homeowner, calls a plumber when her mainline starts backing up. To her surprise, Paul is the one that arrives to take care of her pipes. They exchange awkward small talk, Brianna unable to shake the images of him bathed in moonlight. Will she fall into the trap of his charm again, or will her past treatment be enough to firm her resolve not to fall again into his arms?

Anyway, that’s all I’m giving you right now!  I have pages to type up from the notebook, and more story to work on!  Wish me luck! *skips happily away from the internetz*

About Cici Brown
I'm a happily married mother of two and a half. I'm usually pretty bubbly and in some cases, according to my husband, too open about everything. I am and always will be a gamer geek, though I haven't table-top roleplayed for many years. I still manage to hit an MMO or two. My interests include most things geek and Vampire fiction, though not the sparkly kind, that's not vampire fiction. I have goals towards publishing that have yet to be fulfilled but one day...
